Maddie, 14, is a junior dragster race driver in her second year. She races in the 790 class mostly at BMP Brainerd Motorsports Park in Ringgold, Georgia. Her car, which is based off a single-piston 5 HP Briggs and Stratton motor, generates up to 23 horsepower. In this car, Maddie reaches speeds of 70 MPH and covers the 1/8 mile in the 8.90s. Maddie got started in racing with her dad, Bud, who drag races motorcycles. Bud raced with NMF Motorsports for three years. You can see his page here. That’s Maddie and Bud in the photo that says Calhoun Racing. Maddie enjoys the competition of racing and hanging out with her friends who also race, usually on Saturday or Sunday. The kids in her group range from 8 -16 years old. Maddie is thinking when she grows up she would like to work in the medical field.
