DURATION OF EFFECTIVENESS
QUESTION: How long is NMF effective?
ANSWER: NMF is effective as long as the fluid is not changed. For example, if you treat the transmission, the defrictionization is permanent until you change the oil. When you top off oil, re-add 1 oz of NMF per quart of oil topped-off.
QUESTION: What differences can I expect with NMF?
ANSWERS: In all vehicles, NMF will reduce friction and wear and clean parts. The following benefits should be noticeable on all vehicles:
- Smoother and quieter engine: this is more pronounced in older diesel engines, less so in newer diesel engines and even less in most gasoline/alcohol engines. It should be quite evident in big rigs, motorcycles, ATVs, and snowmobiles. You can use a smart phone vibration meter to measure vibration reduction and a decibel meter to measure noise reduction.
- Clean engine: If you do a before-and-after engine inspection, you will find that after a regular oil change interval running NMF, your engine is clean.
- Extended oil Life: As described at this link, NMF extends the life of conventional and synthetic oils.
- Clean injectors: After using NMF in your fuel for a few hundred miles, you will find your injectors to be clean.
- Reduced blow-by: Blow-by can be caused by mechanical failure (worn out pistons or cylinders) and excessive vibration. If your engine is healthy and still experiencing blow-by, chances are that excessive vibration is allowing unburnt fuel to get past the gap between the rings and the cylinder. In that case, NMF will reduce blow-by.
Improved throttle response should be apparent on motorcycles, snowmobiles, small engines, and 2-strokes.
Wear Reduction, evidenced by heat reduction is clearly noticeable under stressful workloads such as heavy hauling and racing. However, it may not be so apparent under low workload, such as in-town driving or easy highway miles.

QUESTION: What are independent testing results?
ANSWER: The ASTM is a series of tests which are trusted by SAE engineers. In order to maintain certification, all ASTM laboratories around the world operate according to strictly-enforced procedures. The ASTM test relevant to NMF Ionic Friction Reducer is ASTMD4172, which is the international standard measurement of friction reduction and wear reduction of a lubricant. QUESTION: Will NMF increase oil pressure?
ANSWER: No. However, NMF will improve oil flow.
QUESTION: My oil pressure decreased. Is this normal?
ANSWER: As NMF cleans the engine, it improves oil flow and you may see a moderate and harmless drop in oil pressure. Performance should be good. If the engine was very dirty, much sludge may be suspended in the oil. If oil pressure drops significantly, your oil filter may be clogged and changing it should raise your oil pressure to optimal levels. If it does not, there may be so much sludge in the oil that you need an oil change (this is extremely rare).
QUESTION: How is NMF different from an oil stabilizer or other motor-coating product?
ANSWER: Completely different. An oil stabilizer is a long-chain hydrocarbon with a tangled molecular structure. In other words, an oil stabilizer is attracted to itself. While the molecules of such motor-coating products cling, NMF molecules repel. Indeed, eliminating clinging is exactly how NMF prevents wear.
A principle behind NMF is that motor-coating an engine is unhealthy because it traps hydrocarbon residue from combustion to the engine. Static electricity draws hydrocarbons and metal particulates together into clusters of abrasive grit which continually grow and scrape metal off the engine. That "sandpaper" action from motor-coating causes accelerated wear to the engine.
NMF, on the other hand, significantly reduces that kind of damage by suspending abrasive particles in the oil for removal by the filter or drainage during oil change.
QUESTION: Can NMF be used with rotary engines?
ANSWER: Yes, NMF works very well in rotary engines. In fact, my late brother Charles who invented NMF had two rotary-engine cars and offered the below comments to a previous customer:
"Carbon is the enemy of all engines especially the rotary engine. The friction-reducing method used by NMF is not slipperiness or slickness. Instead it is a reversal of the naturally occurring electrically attractive bonding relationship that forms when parts move against each other.
In a piston engine exhaust gases (hydrocarbon molecules) are charged to unite and build upon each other and form into abrasive crystals of carbon grit. NMF charges the ring and cylinder wall the same so that charge is not formed and passed on to the carbon molecules. This condition of like-charge is applied to all parts as well as wear contaminate particles in the oil. This negative negative relationship is the condition we call "defrictionized".
In a rotary engine the carbons are circulating around and around as they await their turn to escape out of the valve ports. The carbons are frictionally charged to unite and become a polishing agent on the apex seals and gears as well.
When I purchased my 1985 Mazda RX7 with the 12A engine it had 172,000 and some extra miles on it. I decided to drive it around for about a week before I defrictionized it so I would be most aware of the performance improvements. The little car is expected to produce 115 hp and the engine ran fine and it was quite fast for so little hp.
I also have a 1982 porsche super Carrera that produces 360 hp and initially before NMF the RX7 was not even close to being in the same performance league of the Porsche. QUESTION: How does NMF affect a vehicle warranty?
ANSWER: NMF is safe; it leaves no residue and does not change the characteristics of oil to which it is applied. It does not cause slippage in automatic transmissions or motorcycle wet clutches.
That said, each warranty is unique. The key is to follow your warranty's instructions. In your warranty the manufacturer has probably designated specific maintenance requirements. If you are unclear about something in your warranty, a vehicle dealership can get you answers.

THE TECHNOLOGY OF NMF
All materials carry an electrical charge. These charges come in the form of electrons and protons. Protons are at the center of each atom while electrons orbit the atom. These charged sub-atomic particles create electrical forces between each other. These forces can be repellant or attractive. LIKE charges repel, OPPOSITE charges attract. Protons have a positive charge while electrons have a negative charge.
These electrical forces behave much like magnetism but act upon only particles that are very close together (unlike magnets that broadcast force). When one metal surface has a positive charge (less electrons) and the other has a negative charge (more electrons), the two metal surfaces are attracted together in friction. When the opposite charges are brought close together, they produce a strong attracting force, which tries to squeeze the surfaces together. On the microscopic scale, this attractive force can become very intense, bending even metal. This atomic attraction between molecules can greatly increase the effort required to move charged surfaces against each other. Ultimately, this means that the atomic electrical forces increase friction, when opposite charges interact. This is the natural frictional state -- the problem to be overcome.
Now, what happens when the electrical charge in both metal surfaces are the same? The metal surfaces repel each other, opposing contact and reducing friction. How can both metal surfaces become same charged? By adding electrons to the atoms in both surfaces. By doing so, both surfaces become negatively charged, so they repel each other. This is how NMF directly reduces the friction between moving parts; it causes all of the moving surfaces to become negatively charged (with surplus electrons), so that all of the parts repel each other on the atomic scale, reducing contact friction.
But this is not the only way that NMF improves efficiency and reduces wear. Another important phenomenon that NMF addresses is the accumulation of wear particles and debris.
Normally, the opposite charges in the wear particles (and debris) cause them to attract to each other and also to the moving parts. This atomic attraction causes wear particles to build up and "snowball" into larger and larger abrasive clusters, further increasing wear. NMF prevents this by causing all of the parts and wear particles to have the same electrical charge (negative), so the wear particles repel each other and do not accumulate together -- they become isolated, suspended in the oil, and come out during an oil change. This is how NMF cleans parts.
OIL LIFE EXTENSION
NMF extends the life of any conventional or synthetic lubricant. For example, in a semi truck using conventional oil, the change interval can be extended to 40,000 miles/64,374 km -- just change the oil filter at 15,000 miles/24,140 km and 30,000 miles/48,240 km, top off the oil as necessary, and add 1 oz NMF per quart of oil topped off.

TESTING AND OIL ANALYSIS

POWERSTROKE 6.0 CAUTION
Dear Powerstroke 6.0 Owners,
Please consider this information before using NMF.
Bottomline upfront: NMF will clean the engine, and this could increase a Powerstroke 6.0’s already high risk of injector failure. Replacing injectors is expensive.
Since the Powerstroke 6.0L came out in 2003, many PS 6.0L owners have enjoyed the performance of NMF and have used it with no issues. That said, we have received three reports from 6.0 owners of injector failure after applying NMF. There was no investigation into one failure. Investigation of the other two incidents revealed that much sludge had broken free of the engine and was suspended in the oil.
Since 1998, NMF has been used in thousands of gasoline-, diesel-, 2-stroke-, and alcohol-powered vehicles without issue. We believe there is not a way for NMF to damage any part of a vehicle; NMF contains no solid particles, leaves no residue, does not change the characteristics of oil, and prevents corrosion.
It is well-established that PS 6.0L engines regularly have inexplicable injector failures. Ford internal communications indicate that Ford knew the engine was defective in that way before putting it into production and continued production without informing the public or fixing the problem. For this reason, Ford was sued by customers in a class action lawsuit. On that page below the summary hundreds of Ford F350 and F250 owners speak of spending thousands of dollars due to unexplainable injector failures after something as seemingly irrelevant as an oil change.
Were the three 6.0 injector failures related to NMF use? Possibly, but only three reports in 14 years is statistically a very low number. If there was a connection, what would explain it? Below is a theory that would make sense.
Fact #1: 6.0 injectors operate on a high-pressure system. Oil under high pressure pushes down a plunger which enables fuel to be sprayed into the cylinder. If there isn’t high pressure, the plunger won’t be suppressed and injection won’t occur.
Fact #2: Upon activation, NMF begins cleaning the engine. Wear material and residue that had been clinging to the engine are suspended in the oil.
Theory: newly suspended residue, before it could be removed by the filter, clogged the 6.0’s oil rails or injector galleyway, preventing adequate oil flow. Lack of oil pressure would preclude injection. For perspective, let’s look at a cutaway of a 6.0 injector:
If this theory is true, why have there been no issues with other HEUI systems such as the Powerstroke 7.3? It’s because the 6.0 oil rails and injector galleyway, about the diameter of a ballpoint pen tube, are by far the narrowest pathways for oil. For example, the 7.3 doesn’t use oil rails. Instead, oil flows through the head directly into ports in the injector which are twice the diameter of the 6.0’s galleyway.
If this theory reflects what happened in those reported cases of injector failure, what is the significance for PS 6.0 owners? For one, it would mean NMF is doing its job of cleaning the engine. Secondly, it would mean that although your 6.0 will most likely be among the vast majority with no issues, using NMF could possibly increase its already high risk of injector failure.
